As part of our aesthetics week, we are taking a detailed look at the various non-surgical treatments Dr. Walker offers at the Atlanta ENT Aesthetics Center. In this blog, we will answer some of the Frequently Asked Questions about BOTOX®.
What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a prescription medication that is injected into the muscles of the face or neck. It is commonly used to treat deep wrinkles around the eyes, forehead and mouth. BOTOX® is not a filler. Instead, Botox blocks the nerve impulses of the injected muscles. This causes the muscle to relax and wrinkles to disappear.
Where is BOTOX® most effective?
Botox is most effective when used to prevent or reduce deep wrinkles caused by the muscles of the face. For example, frown lines between the eyebrows, crows feet around the eyes and smile lines near the mouth.
Are BOTOX® treatments painful?
Most patients find BOTOX® treatments to be only mildly uncomfortable during the procedure. Your physician will numb the area to be injected with cold packs or creams. You might experience mild swelling or tenderness after the procedure, but this fades quickly.
How long does a BOTOX® treatment take?
Botox injections take less than 10 minutes to complete.
How soon will I see results from BOTOX® treatments?
You should see results within the first few days (typically 3-5 days) following your BOTOX® treatment.
How long does a BOTOX® treatment last?
BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are considered a temporary treatment, meaning they require follow-up treatments to maintain results. Most patients will need to return about every three to four months for their next treatment.
