Is Botox Right for You?

If you are looking for a non-surgical solution to facial wrinkles, and are tired of spending money on creams and cosmetics that have little or no effect, then Botox may be for you. The FDA approved Botox in 2002 for the treatment of the frown lines between the eyebrows, or glabellar lines, and over 11.8 million procedures have been performed in the United States alone.

What is a Botox Treatment?

A Botox treatment is a prescription treatment that involves injecting small, diluted amounts of a toxin produced by the bacterium Colstridium botulinum. The toxin is injected into the muscles of the face, causing a controlled weakening of the muscle. When the signal from the nerves to the muscle is interrupted by Botox, the wrinkles disappear and the muscle softens.

How Long Does a Botox Treatment Last?

It takes between three and seven days for the full effect of a Botox treatment to be seen. Botox treatments are temporary solutions to wrinkles, and the procedure will need to be repeated between three and eight months after the injections are given. Overtime, the length of the results will lengthen, as the muscle is trained to relax.

How to Prepare for Your Botox Treatment

Your Botox treatment will be completed in the comfort of our office, and requires no anesthesia. Preparing for your treatment is very easy. It is recommended that you avoid consuming alcohol for a week prior to your visit. To avoid bruising, aspirin and other anti-inflammatories should be stopped two weeks before your scheduled visit.
