Sinusitis, an inflammation of the sinuses, is a very common condition, affecting more than 24 million Americans every year, and because it’s so common, people rarely seek treatment for it. That’s fine for most cases, as the majority of sinusitis is caused by a viral infection which will go away in short order.

Unfortunately, the preponderance of non-serious cases of sinusitis lulls many people into a false sense of security. The most dangerous part of sinusitis is its location on your body, and in some cases, the infection can travel, via blood or through the bone, to wreak havoc in your brain. As the seat of consciousness, the brain is a very delicate organ and it only takes a small change to cause serious repercussions.

Here are some of the complications you can experience if you let your sinusitis remain untreated:

  • Headaches
  • Abscesses
  • Meningitis
  • Vision problems
  • Personality changes
  • Seizures
  • Coma
  • Death

These are all very serious symptoms, which is why it behooves you to take sinusitis seriously when it affects you, even if you have gotten over it with no ill effects in the past.

If you find yourself experiencing severe symptoms in association with your sinusitis, seek the advice of your ENT specialist before the onset of more serious symptoms.

Treat your sinusitis with the seriousness that it deserves, and you can avoid experiencing any worse symptoms!
