How often have we all had a medical problem and thought to ourselves, “I’m sure it’s just ____, and I’ll be fine”? Particularly when it comes to sinus problems, it can be hard for many people to recognize the difference between a cold and a serious infection, or the difference between different types of headaches. What headaches just need aspirin, and which ones mean you should see the doctor?
Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to tell. Still, you can’t visit the doctor every time you have an ache or a pain, so it quickly becomes a matter of learning how to effectively determine when to make an appointment to visit your ENT specialist, for example.
The fact of the matter is that every time you attempt to either self-diagnose or “just wait and see”, you’re gambling with your health, your relationships, your ability to work, and more. Even if you end up being safe 99 times out of 100, there’s still that one time when your life is at risk.
We get colds regularly, and so we don’t think much of them. However, most people don’t know that untreated sinus infections can potentially be fatal. The infection can travel through the bone of your skull and reach your brain, causing what can be permanent damage.
If you or a loved one is experiencing any of these symptoms, they may need treatment from your Atlanta ENT specialist:
- Pressure behind the eyes, cheeks, or forehead
- Nasal congestion
- Facial swelling
- Yellow or green nasal discharge
Why risk self-diagnosing “just a cold” and then “waiting to see”? Take care of yourself and see a specialist. Don’t gamble with your health!
