Food Allergies in Atlanta: Where to Dine, Part 2

Have you ever been out with your friends at a restaurant, only to find out you cannot eat anything on the menu? Do you skip straight to the bottom of a restaurant’s menu to see if they offer gluten-free dishes or substitutions? Food allergies greatly influence where, what and how you eat. It can be hard to find a place to eat that you trust if you have food allergies in Atlanta, so we put together this list to make it easier. In part 1 of this blog series, we explored some options you may have been unfamiliar with; in part 2, we will look at some household-name restaurants that can accommodate your food allergy.

The Varsity

We know — The Varsity is probably the last place you think of when you think of food-allergy friendly dining in Atlanta because of their famous cheesy hotdogs and burgers. For out-of-towners (and Atlanta natives) that must have their fill of American food staples from the largest drive-in restaurant in the world, The Varsity offers on its website a detailed list of foods you can and cannot eat if you suffer from gluten, egg, milk, nut, soy or fish allergies.

Yeah! Burger

Yeah! Burger offers gluten-free vegan burgers, onion rings, buns, sauces, shakes and sundaes. Add all the flavor you want without worrying about your allergies flaring.

Good Karma Coffee House

Good Karma Coffee House, a breakfast and lunch restaurant on the east side of metro Atlanta in Avondale Estates, is a go-to spot for people with food allergies. Its menu of baked goods is gluten, dairy, nut and soy free and also has egg-free options.

Sally’s Gluten Free Bakery

Sally’s Gluten Free Bakery as the name reveals is an allergy-friendly bakery in Atlanta. All of its food is gluten free, but it also has many dairy free, soy free and egg free options, such as their pepperoni pizza, pound cake and pumpkin bread. Desserts can be delicious and dairy-free, too.

Café Sunflower

There are many nut free, soy free and gluten free options on Café Sunflower’s menus, such as the Organic Quinoa Stir Fry, Organic Black Bean Quesadilla and Sesame Chicken. With a location in Buckhead and Sandy Springs and different lunch and dinner menus at each, Café Sunflower is likely to have an allergy-free dish that you like.

Navigating the food scene can be hard when you have food allergies in Atlanta. Try some of the restaurants on this list and you will soon realize that eating out can be safe for those with allergies.
