Don’t Let Your Children’s Hearing be at Risk from Holiday Tech Gifts

Did your child get a new electronic device for the holidays this year? If so, chances are they have a pair of headphones or ear buds seemingly permanently attached to their heads. While this may need some much-needed post-holiday quiet for parents, it could mean hearing loss for your kids if they don’t turn the volume down. 50 percent volume is a good rule of thumb, and its up to parents to check regularly that the volume is at a safe level.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has reported a 31 percent increase in hearing loss today in teens today versus their parents’ generation, and I am sure we can all remember how loud we listened to our music as teens!

Most importantly, parents need to know the warning signs of hearing loss in children and teens:
