Is Your Child Allergic to School? – Atlanta ENT
It sounds like every kid’s dream come true, but the idea of being allergic to school may not be as far fetched as it sounds. Many parents are finding that their children’s concentration at school is waning not because of boredom or ADHD, but because of allergies that are triggered in the classroom or on the playground.
It is easy to assume that a school, with professional cleaning crews, would be a fairly allergen free environment. Surprisingly, there are a number of allergens that could be causing coughing, sneezing, a runny nose and watery eyes. If you have allergies or have had a cold, you can imagine how hard it is to concentrate with allergy symptoms.
Some indoor allergy triggers include:
- Dust mites
- Indoor mold
- Chalk dust
- Chemicals used for cleaning
- Dander from pets carried in by students
- Insect droppings
- Mold
Some playground allergy triggers include:
- Tree pollen
- Weed pollen
- Insect bites
If your child has allergy symptoms at school, it may be time to have allergy testing done at Atlanta ENT. The sooner the cause is found, the sooner a treatment plan can be chosen to help prevent or eliminate allergic reactions.
