Rain and Low Pollen Counts, So Why the Sneezing? Atlanta ENT

As most people with pollen allergies in the Atlanta area can tell you, the one upside to all of this rain we have been having is that the pollen counts have been significantly lower than they were earlier this season. With the rain washing away pollen before it gets airborne, and the counts so low, why are you still sneezing?

Sadly, one allergy often leads to another. The flipside to all of this rain is the continual moisture. Moisture and warm temperatures breed mold. Many allergy sufferers will find out they are not only allergic to pollen, but to mold spores, as well.

Over time, it is possible for your allergies to change, and new allergies to develop. Sudden onset allergies often occur when the body is exposed to new allergens, or the levels of allergens rises to a point that they cause an allergic reaction.

Lately, we are seeing a lot more mold allergies be diagnosed, simply because there is more mold. The best thing you can do for prevention is to keep the inside of the home from getting too humid. Run the air conditioner during rainy weather, avoid opening windows until after the storm system has passed and the ground has had a chance to dry out again.

Your physician  at Atlanta ENT can help you manage symptoms and discuss long-term treatment plans. Call our office today to schedule a consultation if you are experiencing new allergy symptoms.
