Today is Sleep Apnea Awareness Day- Atlanta ENT

The American Sleep Apnea Association lists April 18th, 2013 as Sleep Apnea Awareness Day.

If you or a loved one are among the millions of those undiagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), you should know that it can take tolls on your health in ways that you may not have imagined. Research suggests that ninety percent of individuals with OSA are undiagnosed, and tend to be reluctant to admit that they need medical assistance to get relief from its debilitating symptoms, which include:

The symptoms themselves are an annoyance, but are often only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the more serious damage that OSA can cause, if left untreated.  Obstructed breathing results in low blood-oxygen levels, which interfere with the functions of the heart and brain, and can result in a heart attack or a stroke.

Often, individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea are not aware of the severity of their condition, because it happens while they are asleep. Helping loved ones understand the extent to which their rest is being interrupted is important, and could save their lives.

Sleep studies at Atlanta ENT can help determine if Sleep Apnea is robbing you of your happiness and good health. Call today for a consultation, and take back the good night’s sleep you’ve been missing.
