September may bring cooler days and the promise of fall, but for many Atlanta residents, it also brings something less welcome: fall allergies.
Tips for Avoiding the Flu This Winter
While the Atlanta area is seeing an abundance of colds, strep throat and bronchitis so far this December, the onset of flu season won’t start to peak until the holidays. So what can you do to minimize your flu risk as you travel and visit friends and family? Here are some tips to help you stay healthy:
- Get your flu shot. If you haven’t had your flu shot yet, now is the perfect time to do so. You can get your flu shot at your doctors, your local health clinic and most pharmacies.
- Wash your hands. We can’t say this enough. Washing hands vigorously with soap and water frequently is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs.
- If you are sick, stay home! No one wants a gift of a cold or flu for the holidays. If you feel under the weather, it is better to cancel plans than to risk getting everyone ill.
- Find your balance. It is easy to get caught up in the holiday chaos and not eat properly or get enough rest. It is important, especially during stressful times of the year, to make sure that you recharge properly, with a well rounded diet, exercise and rest.
